THE PROJECT

ATLÂNTICO is a premium sports nutrition and equipment e-commerce platform built for a fictional Portuguese brand based in Lisbon. The application features a fully functional product catalogue with 18 products across three categories — supplements, equipment, and apparel — complete with bilingual support in Portuguese and English, a persistent shopping cart, user authentication, and a polished, brand-consistent UI inspired by leading European fitness companies.

THE CHALLENGE

The goal was to build a production-grade e-commerce experience that demonstrated frontend engineering depth beyond a basic tutorial store. Key challenges included implementing a fully functional bilingual interface using i18next with seamless PT/EN language switching, architecting a scalable product data model supporting multiple categories and variants, integrating Firebase Authentication and Firestore for real user management, and delivering a premium visual identity that felt like a real consumer brand — not a developer portfolio piece.

THE SOLUTION

I built ATLÂNTICO using React 18 with TypeScript and Bootstrap 5 for responsive layout and component structure. The bilingual system was implemented with i18next and react-i18next, supporting full Portuguese and English translations across all pages and UI elements — toggled via a flag-based language switcher in the navbar. Firebase handles user authentication and Firestore powers the product and cart data layer. The application includes five fully routed pages: Home, Products, Product Detail, Cart, and Login — each with complete loading states, empty states, and error handling.
